Mortal Kombat has a tendency to repeat itself - in stages, in storylines, and in fighters. Some fighting game players grow attached to a certain roster of characters and never want to branch out, and that is understandable, but one of the worst things Mortal Kombat 12 could do for the franchise is just have Sub-Zero fighting Scorpion on Shang Tsung's island again. Even mystical characters like Sub-Zero and Scorpion were both human before the events of Mortal Kombat Mythologiesand the first Mortal Kombat game, so there's no reason for them to show up either. Many of the fighters introduced in Mortal Kombat X, like Cassie Cage and Jacqui Briggs, are simply too young for it to make any sense for them to appear.

Discovery recently delayed Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League to next year. While there are plenty of Mortal Kombat fighters throughout the series who are either of indiscriminate or advanced age, the majority of fighters in the Mortal Kombat (2011), Mortal Kombat X, and Mortal Kombat 11 timelines would not be alive while Fire God Liu Kang and The Great Kung Lao are having their own adventure. Of course, we shouldn't get our hopes too high. The lore of Mortal Kombat is actually quite interesting if you can find the time to go down that rabbit hole. But, with a plethora of opportunities to do so in the next few months, NetherRealm and Warner Bros. Whether or not Mortal Kombat 12 will be revealed soon remains to be seen.

Finally, trusted insiders claimed that Mortal Kombat 12 could be formally unveiled at this month's still-unconfirmed PlayStation Showcase. The most recent teases came from SonicFox, who hinted at an imminent announcement. However, before the "official" confirmation, we've gotten several hints from NetherRealm and other parties about the status of the next Mortal Kombat game. Discovery's CEO, David Zaslav, confirmed its release date earlier this year.

This marks the first time that NetherRealm has teased Mortal Kombat 12 after Warner Bros. Hardcore fans consider the explosion of the grains of sand as the birth of an entirely new universe. Specifically, the "good" ending of the Mortal Kombat 11 DLC, Aftermath, sees Liu Kang establish a new universe that looks fairly similar to the first Mortal Kombat game albeit with some changes. It's going to take a much longer article to explain to you what's gone on in Mortal Kombat so far, but the gist is the end of Mortal Kombat 11 basically gave NetherRealm an out to reboot the entire franchise. Series co-creator, Ed Boon, ended the video with a very simple but also, hype-inducing phrase, as he said, "we're not quite done yet." Then came a bizarre 10-second clip filled with the hyper-detailed grain of sand that fans believe is NetherRealm confirming the story of Mortal Kombat 12. The long-time Mortal Kombat developers uploaded a two-minute clip on their YouTube channel where it thanked the fans who've helped make the controversial franchise one of the most commercially successful video game properties of all time. It's fitting that Mortal Kombat 12 will reboot the entire franchise on its 30th anniversary. Is NetherRealm Studios preparing to do an official reveal of Mortal Kombat 12?
